I've shared bits and pieces of nursery projects as I've completed them, but never a full tour. Evie is now over a year old and it's been complete since... well, before she was born. Yeah, I'm that kind of slacker. At least when it comes to blogging.

It's one of my favorite spaces in our home, mainly because Evie and I spend a ton of time reading, daydreaming, singing, playing, and napping in here. It's a bright, cheery, magical place where anything is possible. So, without further ado... welcome to Evie's nursery!

I did an "Evelyn" search on Etsy and this pretty girl came up. I think this is what Evie might look like when she's older. And look! There's an owl on her shoulder... she fits in perfectly here.

I want to talk to you about someone who's very near and dear to this little pink heart of mine: my firstborn son, Watson, our 2-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback. We pride ourselves on being responsible pet owners and for the past two years, we've been driving, an hour roundtrip, 3-5 times a week, to Richmond, where we take Watson to the nearest dog park. Unfortunately, there are currently no off-leash dog parks nearby. And just as other people enjoy the convenience of public swimming pools, jogging trails, golf courses, and playgrounds, we dog owners need a place to exercise and enjoy our pets in an off-leash, clean, and safe environment.

WatsonSuch a facility would benefit our community in so many ways:

1) It promotes responsible pet ownership. Most dogs require exercise that leash restrictions do not permit. Dogs are social animals whose overall health is improved by regular interaction with people and other dogs. Happy, healthy dogs are calmer and more well-behaved, reducing nuisances such as barking, aggression, and other behavioral problems exhibited by idle and/or non-socialized dogs.

2) It fosters positive community-building and networking opportunities by providing an environment for social interaction for people, as well as their pets. There are so many families here that would greatly benefit by having the opportunity to connect with people who share a common interest, and create a lasting, social network.

3) Dog park patrons tend to be people who appreciate the park and take an "ownership interest" in it. As a result, they keep the area clean and free of criminal activities and other negative elements.

The Fort Lee housing office has been promising its residents a dog park for the past two years, so I've created this petition to urge them to start progress on it. Won't you help me?

He woke up at 5 a.m. this morning and took Watson out for a 7-mile run in 30-degree weather. He's kind of amazing like that. There aren't many people I know who are disciplined enough to wake up at 5 a.m., much less run seven miles, in freezing weather. Scratch that, he's the only one I know who is crazy disciplined enough to do stuff like that. And it doesn't end there. He carries this kind of focused and deliberate mentality in all aspects of his life: in his faith, his family, his health, his work, in everything. So, I hope you can empathize with my predicament; being the wife of someone so amazing certainly has its challenges. As in, how the heck can anyone be expected to keep up?

I think every girl uses her father as a measuring rod for her future husband. My father is the most intelligent, generous, and kindest man I know. Despite being remarkably successful, he is unbelievably humble. He is an unassuming man who says little, yet quietly demands respect. This would normally be bad news for most men, but Adam is clearly not most men.

Adam is the kind of man who, after his morning run, comes home to cook breakfast for his family before heading off to work. He is the kind of man who, despite being so big and strong, manages to fit unabashedly around our daughter's little finger. He is the kind of man who is so thoughtful and prepared that he gives me everything I need before I can even ask for it: a sweater nearby because he knows I am always cold in restaurants and movie theaters; a strong and steady arm to hold onto because I tend to wear the most ridiculous heels; a fully-stocked kitchen because I get 'inspired' and have to live out my foodie fantasies at a moment's notice. He is the kind of man who will (and has actually honed the necessary skills to) literally protect his family with his life. The kind of man who some would say lives a little off-center by having quite an impressive and comprehensive 'TEOTWAWKI box' in the event when everything falls apart and we are faced with earthquakes, floods, fires, nuclear threats, terrorist attacks, and maybe even a zombie apocalypse (thrown in for good measure). But Adam is more than just the guy who carries all the heavy stuff and makes sure that his wife and daughter are well cared for.

He is the man God chose for me. More importantly, he is the man who brought God back into my life. And together, we can't help but marvel at how perfectly and eloquently God has worked His design and His will in our marriage; our faith is renewed exponentially. Not only has Adam helped me realize a more personal relationship with God, he leads our family with a strong and honest heart and a loving, steadfast hand. Adam is, among so many wonderful things, incredibly charismatic, wise, handsome, funny, entertaining, sincere, intense, devoted, dependable, generous, and too much to describe in one sitting. He is the best husband I could ever ask for and an even better father. He jumps with both feet in, in everything he does.

Honestly, I don't know where he gets the energy. I spend my days just trying to keep up. I watch him strive, stumble, and sometimes succeed in his efforts to be the kind of Great Man my father is. He's not quite there yet, but it's fully apparent that one day he will be. And if Evie's future husband is anything like her father, it's the best I can ever ask for.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://blog.jenwoodhouse.com/home/2011/12/25/merry-christmas-from-the-hendersons.html"><rss:title>Merry Christmas From The Hendersons!</rss:title><rss:link>http://blog.jenwoodhouse.com/home/2011/12/25/merry-christmas-from-the-hendersons.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Christmas Family</dc:subject>

A few things:

Yes, this is really our Christmas card.

Yes, we actually mailed it out to people we know.

Yes, Adam's sweater is 5 sizes too small and is missing a button.

Yes, Jen's sweatshirt is 5 sizes too big and has a mock turtleneck sewn in (don't knock it, it's efficient).

Yes, Jen and Evie are rockin' the side ponytail (we're single-handedly bringing it back, mark my words).

No, Watson is not missing his ears. They're just pulled back because he is terribly embarrassed.

Merry Christmas, y'all! And try not to let Adam's crazy eyes keep you up at night. This project is literally fool-proof. Seriously. You can't go wrong here.

So here's the fast and loose version:

You'll need:

a wreath form (I used an 18" straw wreath found at Michaels for $4.99)

400 large white coffee filters

glue gun & a package of glue sticks

a pretty ribbon, for hanging (optional)

Step 1: Put a dot of glue in the center of coffee filter and attach it to the wreath.
Step 2: Repeat 400 more times.

Rocket surgery, I know, right?

The project took me a little over an hour, from start to finish. As you can see, I completed it during naptime.

Be sure not to burn yourself. Unfortunately, there were 2 burn incidents on my watch. Hopefully you'll be more fortunate. Or careful. Whatever.

After I filled up one side, I flipped it over to complete the other.

And voila! Frilly, fluffy fabulousness!

Easy peasy lemon squeezy, right? Right. If you don't have an hour-ish to spare, and you've decided you can't live without one of these fabulous wreaths, I'd be happy to make one for you! I just so happen to be selling them in my Etsy shop. Booyah.

I picked up these cute little magnetic spice tins at World Market for $2 each. I was expecting the standard stainless steel color, but was pleasantly surprised with their choices of red, green, and teal. Naturally, I chose teal (see recipe binders above). Then I picked up a 12x24 sheet of metal from Lowe's for $5, tacked it up to the inside of my cabinet door and voila! Organized spices. FINALLY. Well, that was easy. What took me so long?!

What about you guys? What kind of spice organization works for you?

</rss:item></rdf:RDF>
